CPI steady at 2.5%pa
Despite fears of a blow-out in the family budget from petrol prices (up 7.2% this quarter), the June quarter CPI released today shows price inflation in Australia is steady at 2.5%pa. Cheap imports are helping out to keep it low with computing equipment down 11.4% and electrical appliances down 5.7%, for the year.
We have updated the Family Budget data series for the latest CPI increase. Price inflation since our series started in 1901 averages 3.9%pa.
