Inflation Anxiety
On Friday 14th October the US CPI for the month of September was released showing 1.5% for the month and 4.7% for the year. The impact of higher oil prices is becoming starkly apparent with July, August and September month increases for Transportation component of CPI at 1.5%, 2.2%, 5.1% and for Energy at 3.8%, 5.0%, 12.0%. The economic worries are focused on the potential longer term flow though effects of this on other consumer goods and wages. We have added the USA CPI series to our Dataseries for Graphing in Research Centre.
Australia releases its' CPI quarterly. The September quarter is due out in two weeks time. The last three quarterly increases in CPI to June have been 0.8%, 0.7%, 0.6%. The automotive fuel component of Transportation cost in the June quarter was 7.2% and 10.5% for the year ending June.
