ZPG too succesful?

Paradoxically, many environmental groups were formed in the late 1960's and early 1970's as the baby boomers started consuming everything in sight. One of these groups was Zero Population Growth formed in 1968 by Paul R. Ehrlich, author of a book that same year 'The Population Bomb'. ZPG changed its name in 2002 to The Population Connection due to negative reactions from schools and newspapers.

Articles in this week's Economist focus on NPG (negative population growth) as countries like Japan, Germany, Italy and Russia face declines in population over the next 50 years. Using FinDem's Global Population Profiles calculators in Research Centre we estimate Japan's population will fall by 26 million to 101 million by 2050. The percentage aged over 75 will increase from 8.5% now to 20.3% in 2050.

According to the United Nations, 50 countries will have lower populations in 2050 than now. However during this time World population will grow from 6.5 billion to 9.1 billion with most growth projected in ?developing countries?. This classification has caused some debate.
