All The Presidents' Menfolk

Could we be heading for a world where the G8 is dominated by baby boomer women leaders and the accompanying person activities at the conferences are focused on the menfolk? Germany already has 52 year old Angela Merkel. Waiting in the wings in 2007 Presidential elections we have for France, 53 year old Segolene Royal and for the USA 58 year old Hillary Clinton or 51 year old Condoleezza Rice. Ms Royal was born in Senegal, is not married but has been partner to the leader of the Socialist party since 1970's and has four children by him.

Longer life expectancy for women rather than men may see the sex ratio of voters edging up a bit in favour of women. In Australia now there are 3.2% more women voters than men. Workforce shortages in ageing developed countries are also likely to see men chasing more lucrative offers in the corporate or public service world than the insecure low paid long hours of politics. Conversely politics is appealing to capable women done with raising children, not financially driven and with an edge in the voting stakes.
