Mr Mum gets real
Statistics are starting to register of men staying home to look after children while women work full time. It's just a blip at present - 2% where children are 0 to 2 years, to 4% where children are 12 to 14. And it's partly to do with who commands the best wage in the couple with 20% of women with children under 15, earning more than their partners. Women are coming to grips with the odd man appearing regularly at playgroup. The John Hughes classic screenplay 'Mr Mom' was based on retrenched car worker played by Michael Keaton loosing a bet that he would get re-employed quicker than wife Teri Garr could get a job.
