Women Wealthier Than Men
The 2007 BRW Rich List was recently published in BRW magazine. Wealth of the top 200 adds up to $130 billion and has increased by 28% over the 2006 total, similar to the latest year's stockmaket rise. Women make up 6% of the list and have average wealth of $642 million, beating the Male average of $637 million for the first time. The women have been steadily catching up to the men having been at 83% of the Men's average wealth in 2006, up from 61% in 2005 and 50% in 2004.
Weighted age (by wealth) is a lot younger than last year at 48 in 2007 compared to 63 in 2006. This is due to some notable meteoric young List entrants in Jeremy Reid aged 30 with $200 million, Clive Palmer with $1,000 million at age 53 and the Grinham brothers hedge fund gurus with $250 million and aged 36 and 39. Two notable deaths of older members of last year's list (John Roberts at 74 and with $740 million, and Franco Begiorno-Nettis at age 91 and with $650 million) also help to move the weighted age down.
We have added age profile data for the BRW Rich Lists under the Age Profiles section in Research Centre.
